Tonie

I was born and raised in Santa Clara, California. My father was a high school teacher for over 30 years. He instilled such a love of learning and nurturing in me, and I loved watching him interact with his students so much that I decided to carry on his legacy and become a teacher myself. Even though my interests and passions fell with the much younger early childhood stage, I still feel him guiding me with the same essential principles: 1) Every student is an individual. 2) Meet every one where they are. 3) Love and encourage unconditionally.

I have worked in the field of early childhood education for over 30 years. I have had the privilege of working both in the private and public sector as well as in elementary education. I started my position as the lead Voyager (pre-K) teacher at Vivian Olum in the summer of 2016. I am inspired by my students everyday as I observe their growth, sense of wonder and “Aha!” moments as they learn, discover and develop crucial life and character skills that will carry them through adulthood.

I married my high school sweetheart 30 years ago. We have 3 grown boys, 2 daughters in love, 2 crazy Golden Retrievers and one amazing granddaughter. This summer we will celebrate 19 years as Oregonians. Together we like to travel and hike. I also love to cook, bake, drink coffee, snuggle my puppies, and spend time with my family and friends!
